Steen Christensen, an active top yachtsman, is gradually taking over the helm at John Mast from his father. "The company's traditions of the past 30 years shall be carried forward, to ensure that we continue to make the best products."
John Christensen, founder of John Mast in 1974, will continue to be involved with product development: John Christensen: "I do not have problem with handing over the company to Steen. And now the generation change is well underway." |
Buying a mast is more than a matter of trust. When you first set sail, you naturally take it for granted that the mast and rig are properly designed and perfectly trimmed to remain in place on the boat. Trust is not in short supply at John Mast. Way back in 1971 its first mast was created in the loft at home. Since then over 45,000 spars have been through the production process at the company's 8000m2 large production unit in Denmark. All employees each have their own area of specialisation. Our agent in Hamburg, has its own workshop with all new rigging machines, especially for rod rigging. The unit also deals with the supply and rigging of masts throughout most of Europe from its own trailer. Steen Christensen, one of Denmark's top sport-sailors, now heads the company. The company is in the process of a generation handover, with Steen Christensen gradually taking over the helm from his father, John Christensen, one of the most respected figures in Danish yachting. John Christensen will however continue to be involved with product development for the company. The company's present and future philosophy is that masts and booms should be solid, functional and of a top-notch design. "In the future, masts will continue to be supplied with professional service to new and old customer's alike" stresses Director Steen Christensen. |
All of our masts and rigs are manufactured using the best alloys and materials.
This is a natural consequence of our many years' experience. We know that the demand is for a strong, light, rigid and aerodynamic mast.
Materials for this purpose are getting better and better. Today there is not a great difference in weight between an aluminium mast and the finished mast in carbon fibre.
Hence the close dialogue between the customer, the engineer, when he calculates loads on the computer's cad/cam programme, and the craftsman when manufacturing masts and rigs which are suited to the boat, sails and requirements of the crew.
